There’s no doubt that it’s magical to see a sea of locals decked in white on Julia Street each year for White Linen Night, but on a night that celebrates art and creativity we shouldn’t leave it all up to the professionals! Don’t get me wrong, I’m a sucker for a theme, but this year I’ve thought up a few ways to put a little more “me” into my ethereal attire. Here are some tips on how to decorate your blank canvas:
Go Into Detail
Vintage dresses often have a level of beautiful detail that isn’t found on modern clothes. Local boutiques like Lili Vintage on Magazine have great selections with clothes that have cool elements like ruffles, lace, and embroidery.
Get Your Neon
The neon trend is still alive! Add a splash of super noticeable color with a bright accessory or two. Christian Siriano adopted this trend as part of his Summer 2012 collection. Bright ties can also dress up an otherwise straightforward menswear option.
Brush On Some Baubles
Jewelry can be a fast way to customize your look in a way that fits your personality to a ‘T.’ Ready to be noticed? Check out these statements pieces from local label Culture Shock.
Ace the Accessories
Accessories make or break the outfit! If neon’s not your thing, you can dress it down with a casual hat or scarf, dress it up with a fancy belt or jewelry, or a bright flower in your hair! There are a million places to pick up cool accessories in New Orleans, but some of our favorites include Funky Monkey, Buffalo Exchange, SOPO, and the Frenchmen Art Market.
Stay Between the Lines
All white makes you look a little too washed out? Maybe just worried about spilling your wine? Break up the monotone up with stripes on white in summertime staple seersucker, black-and-white, or different shades of light colors.
See you out there!
