New Orleans Concert Preview: August 25-31

It’s that time again. Check out the Red Beans and Life Weekly Concert Preview for the shows you need to see!

Monday, August 25

California X (w/ Heat Dust, Pope)

Typically, I kick off the week with some mellow tunes to help readers ease into the week. You’ll just have to suck it up this time because California X are playing on a Monday.

Prytania Bar, 3445 Prytania Street, 10 P.M.

Tuesday, August 26

Hard Girls, Broadcaster, All People,Donovan Wolfington

It’s a night of upbeat pop-punk featuring San Jose’s Hard Girls and hometown heroes Donovan Wolfington. What’s not to love?

Gasa Gasa. 4920 Freret St. 9 p.m. Buy Tickets.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 27

NOTS (W/ DUMMY DUMPSTER, BLACK ABBA, DJ 9RIS 9RIS)

Sometimes the universe just throws you a good week. That’s certainly the case with Saturn Bar. My love of lady punk bands notwithstanding, they’ve put together an excellent week of shows and Memphis’ Nots is no exception.
Saturn Bar, 3067 St. Claude Ave. 9 p.m.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 28

NOISEWATER, THE QUICKENING

It’s possible to create a weekly rundown of NOLA concerts without a single funk show, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Hi-Ho Lounge. 2239 St. Claude Ave. 10 p.m.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 29

BEACH DAY, BEN POLAR ONE MAN BAND

Beach Day is love. Beach Day is life. No further questions.

Siberia. 2227 St. Claude Ave. 6 p.m

Money To Blow alternative:

MAD DECENT BLOCK PARTY

There’s really only one reason to go to this $45 mini-fest at Mardi Gras World and that’s the Hood Pope himself. If, for some reason, you want to see some of the other acts, this thing kicks off at 2 p.m.

Mardi Gras World. Buy tickets.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 30
GEORGE PORTER JR. & THE RUNNIN’ PARDNERS

BONERAMA, TAB BENOIT,THE BOOGIEMEN, DAVE FERRATO & TCHOUPAZIN,DAVE JORDAN BAND, FUNK MINKEY, TOM FITZPATRICK BAND, PINK MAGNOLIAS

Good music. Good cause. Help raise money for local schoolteacher Carin Graber, who is undergoing proton therapy to treat a brain tumor, by coming out to the Howlin’ Wolf.

Howlin’ Wolf. 907 S. Peters St. 6 p.m.

SUNDAY AUGUST 31

THE MUMBLES

Wind down your week with the smooth sounds of these NOLA originals.
d.b.a. 10 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door.

There they are. Enjoy everyone and tell us about any shows coming up that you think we should see in our Comments Section!
