Happy National Donut Day!
Shoutout to the Salvation Army for creating this joyous occasion to celebrate the men and women who served donuts to soldiers in WWI. Because fried dough coated in sugar deserves its own holiday and here in New Orleans there are a multitude of ways to celebrate the day, from fine dining establishments to Winn Dixie (Free donut holes in the bakery section today!!)
But also, keep this list in mind everyday because 24 hours is certainly not enough time to pay full tribute.
1. Krispy Kreme, Metairie
It would just be unAmerican to not include this classic. Plus, every customer gets one free donut today. They are open till 11pm tonight so grab one before you head over to Free Fridays at Tips tonight and coat your stomach with some glazed goodness.

2. District Donuts
So trendy, so hip, so on point. Every time I eat their Maple Bacon donut, I get a little sad that I lived two whole decades without knowing this kind of joy. Today they are selling Do-bobs so you can sample a handful of flavors on a stick. Or, just buy full size ones of all the flavors you want to try and have no regrets. Do you hear me? None.

3. Blue Dot Donuts
With locations in Mid City and Uptown, you really have no reason not to celebrate this most joyous day. A PB& J Donut is always appreciated by me and everyone in the whole world. Also, Blue Dot was founded by three cops who really loved donuts. I can’t think of a more fitting place to patronize.
4. Manhattan Jack
If you’re looking for a bougie Uptown bakery to enjoy your donut at with a fancy coffee concotion, this is your spot. I personally recommend the apple fritter – so sweet, cinnamon-y and delicious. It tastes like fall in a sugary ball of dough.

5. Boucherie
Looking to feel classy while you shove sugary confections into your face? Boucherie’s Krispy Kreme bread pudding is the ultimate way to celebrate the holiday in style. Rich, syrupy and not too sweet- this will make you wonder why we don’t always use donuts to make bread pudding. Bonus: You can call in an order of the KKBP for pickup if you don’t want to change out of your pajamas or pay for a full meal. I’ve been known to abuse this privilege.
